Joining the Foreign Service, in Disney Songs

Here's a goofy (get it? Disney!) post I've wanted to do for a while: expressing stages of the Foreign Service process through Disney music. This list may not be the most informative of my posts, but I hope it makes someone smile or laugh.

When You Decide to Apply: "Go the Distance" (Hercules)

As You're Studying for the FSOT/FSOA: "Almost There" (Princess and the Frog)

While You're on the Register: "When Will My Life Begin" (Tangled)

During A-100: "I'll Make a Man out of You" (Mulan)

When You Get the Bid List: "A Whole New World" (Aladdin)

After Protocol Class: "Be Our Guest" (Beauty and the Beast)

In Security Overseas Training: "Be Prepared" (The Lion King)

Departing for Post: "Opetaia Foa'i - We Know the Way" (Moana)

  1. Hi! Just wasted to tell you that I really love + appreciate your blog. I'm a junior in high school and I'm pretty set (and have been for years) on being an FSO (consular!). I read all the foreign service blogs because I'm creepy like that and this one especially made me laugh. (As if I can relate - the most imported thing I've registered for thus far was my SAT in October - wish me luck.) What you're doing looks awesome + and I'm really jealous + I was wondering if you've always wanted to be an FSO/what you majored in to get there?

    1. I was you not too long ago! (Good luck on your SAT.) I've always wanted to be an FSO. I did interdisciplinary studies for my Bachelor's and Master's (at good schools but not internationally known Ivies or anything like that), but others in my cohort had a huge range of other degrees and backgrounds - law, engineering, tech, emergency management, even fine arts! Don't give up on the Foreign Service dream, but always have a backup plan... You never know how hiring is going to be once you're out of school and it may take a few tries (like it did for me). I'm always happy to answer questions if you have more. :)
